Prime minister, P.E.I. premier announce new childcare spaces, improved pay for ECEs

King and Trudeau also announced a new pension plan for early childhood educators in the sector, which will be matched by government funds. Natalie Jameson, P.E.I.’s minister of education and early years, said childcare workers have since reached wage parity with education assistants in the school system.
Trudeau also said the new childcare funding was an “economic announcement, not a social announcement,” a nod to evidence that affordable childcare allows more parents to stay in the workforce.
