A tragedy that unfolded on rough water near the shores of Tsi Snaihne (Snye) on a windy and cold Wednesday night was still coming into clearer focus Friday.
The police search began when a man from Akwesasne, Casey Oakes, 30, was reported missing on Thursday. He was last seen boarding a small boat on Wednesday night and is yet to be located.
Even more heartbreaking is, the marshy area in the St. Lawrence River where the bodies were found is only several hundred metres north of River Road in Tsi Snaihne; most of the harrowing journey across the river had been completed. The incident has attracted international media attention, and another AMPS press conference was to be held late on Friday afternoon. Information from that briefings was not available prior to publication of this article.
