Updated: Aug. 18, 2024, 5:49 p.m."At 5:42 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over Mount Holly, or 14 miles south of Trenton, moving northeast at 25 mph," states the weather service. "Minor damage to vehicles is possible. Wind damage to roofs, siding, trees, and power lines is possible."
When venturing outdoors, it's vital to establish a clear plan for seeking shelter in case of lightning. It's important to remember that lightning can strike even when a storm seems to have passed, so exercise caution. If you find yourself outdoors without access to indoor shelter during a thunderstorm, take these steps to maximize your safety:Steer clear of tall, isolated trees and other prominent objects. In wooded areas, stay close to lower stands of trees.
Do not approach water bodies, wet objects, or metal items. While water and metal don't attract lightning, they conduct electricity effectively and can pose significant risks.
