P.E.I.'s RCMP is continuing a search for a man who injured two people with a sword at the Seacow Pond beach late evening Sept. 1. - File photoP.E.I. RCMP is continuing the search for a man who attacked two people with a sword at a beach near Seacow Pond three days ago.
Cpl. Gavin Moore, media relations officer for P.E.I. RCMP, said the major crime unit has ruled out a number of tips it has received over the weekend. “We have received a number of tips and we're following up with those tips,” he told SaltWire in a phone interview Sept. 4. “It's ... those tips, no matter how small, that really can help propel the investigation forward.”In addition, the P.E.I. Ground Search and Rescue team is searching the area for any types of articles that can assist in the investigation. The RCMP is also talking to residents and businesses to get more information, Moore said.
“After an incident like this, it is quite traumatizing for the victims involved, for community members and for the Island as a whole. And we continue to ask Islanders to practise higher degrees of home security, making sure the doors are locked and windows are locked as well,” he said.“There are some things that are not correct being circulated,” he said, adding people should look to the RCMP website and trusted news sources for updates.On Sept. 1 at around 9:30 p.m.
The woman suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and the youth had minor injuries. The third person was unharmed. The suspect then fled on foot.
