JOHN'S, N.L. — There is no evidence suggesting a weapons offence occured near the Waterford Hospital in St. John's, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary stated on the social media platform 'X'.At this stage, there is no evidence to suggest a weapons offence occurred in the Waterford Valley area. Officers remain in the area gathering information related to the report.At 10:56 a.m.
Schools in the area resumed normal operations and students would be dismissed at the regular times, the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District posted on 'X'. Police in St. John's are advising people to avoid the area of the Waterford Hospital as they respond to a potential weapons offence.Both police and the health authority say more information will be provided as it becomes available.
NL Health Services advises that the Waterford Hospital is currently on lockdown due to an ongoing police operation. This is an evolving situation and updates will be provided as required.A source has also told SaltWire that Beaconsfield Junior High and"other schools in the area" are also on lockdown. Some of the nearby schools include Waterford Valley High, St. Mary's Elementary, École Roche du Nord, and Hazelwood Elementary.
