The world’s top-ranked men’s tennis player, Djokovic has refused all along to take the jabs. The U.S. government earlier this year denied his appeal for special permission to play in a pair of tournaments, per reports. Djokovic, 35, was deported from Australia in January 2021 because he was unvaccinated against the coronavirus, and that country at the time had a similar travel restriction as the U.S. for entering foreigners. After being unable to play in the Australia Open at the time, he vowed he would skip any future Grand Slam events rather than get vaccinated.“Personally, I am opposed to the vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be able to travel,” he said in a statement in 2020.
Djokovic has won 22 Grand Slam titles, including a record 10 Australian Opens on artificial surfaces , seven on Wimbledon’s grass courts, two on the French Open’s clay courts and three U.S. Opens on artificial surfaces.
