Eligible students can get $1,250 per month between May and August and students with children or disabilities can get $2,000 per month

Starting May 15, post-secondary students will be able to apply for the Canada Emergency Student Benefit .

The CESB is a benefit program aimed at helping college and university students cover their living costs over the coming summer months, as many face limited employment opportunities amid an economic lockdown due to COVID-19. The benefit will provide students with $1,250 per month between May and August 2020, and $2,000 per month for students with children or disabilities. Successful applicants will not be required to repay the benefit.

First, make sure you verify on what dates you can apply. In order to better manage the anticipated influx in applications, the Canada Revenue Agency has staggered application times, meaning that you’ll have to apply within a certain window in order to receive your benefit.Keep in mind that any students who have already received, or are currently applying for, the Canada Emergency Response Benefit or Employment Insurance , will not be eligible for the student benefit.
