In statement to the Union-Tribune, USD says coaching staff learned of situation involving unknown amount of players on Friday, then suspended football activities; opener remains on
The University of San Diego is investigating alleged hazing between members of the football team during preseason camp, the university confirmed late Wednesday in a statement to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Though the nature of the alleged hazing were not explained by the university, the statement indicated that “the university does not believe anyone was physically harmed.” Athletic Director Bill McGillis said he was not able to comment on the investigation and referred the Union-Tribune to the university statement. McGillis confirmed, however, that football activities resumed Wednesday and the Toreros still plan on playing the season opener.
The Toreros hired Brandon Moore as their new coach in April, replacing Dale Lindsey. Moore, a former NFL linebacker, most recently had coached the Colorado School of the Mines to the NCAA Division II championship game.in March that he was forced out by the university after a decade. The 80-year-old added: “I did not retire. I was shown the door and would like to coach. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
