Here's what you need to know
People claiming Universal Credit can be forced to return home from holiday by the Department for Work and Pensions or risk having their payments stopped.
Read on for a full roundup of what you need to know before heading off on holiday if you are a Universal Credit claimant. These rules include providing evidence that you are seeking work. This can consist of a list of jobs that you have applied for. As a result, if you are holiday when you are offered an interview or given a start date for a new job and it can not be rearranged, you are required to head home to attend.
Can they stop my Universal Credit? According to the DWP: "There are no limits to the number of periods away of up to one month that are allowed in each year. But when any period of time abroad exceeds a month, we are notified and have to decide if the extended absence can be approved." In some scenarios, the DWP may approve an extended absence, during which the requirement to look for work will be paused. This includes situations such as bereavements and medical treatment.
