The world is quieter and a lot less fun today following the death of former Toronto Sun video director Nelson Branco.
In 1993 Branco moved to Toronto, where he earned a degree from Ryerson University in radio and television arts. TV remained his main interest throughout his life — particularly soap operas. Branco began his career at Soap Opera Update in New York City before moving on to celebrity weekly In Touch, where he helped launch the tabloid.
Starting in 2015, Branco became editor of transit tabloid 24 Hours, where he put in long hours turning the paper into a buzzword for what was hot, and what was not. From there, his next assignment was as the Sun’s video director. “Nelson’s sharp powers of observation and fabulous take on celebrities could take a story from just fine to smarter, better and so much more fun to read,” Vassos said.
