The unexploded ordnance shell was found within the Little Round Top rehabilitation area, according to Gettysburg officials.
Officials found unexploded ordnance Wednesday within the Little Round Top rehabilitation area of the Gettysburg National Military Park. The ordnance was cleaned and photos were taken before it was destroyed.GETTYSBURG, Pennsylvania — An archeologist working at the Gettysburg battlefield stumbled upon a fortunately un-blast from the past.
While the shell is a rare find, it could not be preserved because it was still considered live, authorities say. Roads leading to the area were closed until the ordnance was safely removed by the 55th Ordnance Disposal Company team from Fort Belvoir, Virginia. The shell was taken to a secure location and detonated, park spokesman Jason Martz tells pennlive.com.
