PONTIAN: Parti Amanah Negara's claim that Umno nominated Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as its Prime Minister candidate for the 15th General Election (GE15) as a ploy to speed up GE15 is not true, said Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

GE15 must be held by Sept 16 next year. There has been talk that Umno wants GE15 to be held as soon as possible following Barisan Nasional's landslide victories in the Melaka and Johor state elections that were held in November last year and March this year respectively. Umno is the backbone of Barisan Nasional.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Maslan said Pakatan Harapan communications director Fahmi Fadzil's statement that the Memorandum of Understanding on Transformation and Political Stability between the Federal Government and Pakatan , did not involve Umno, was also untrue.
