Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations while ensuring exceptional patient care and safety. The role requires the ability to accurately identify anatomical structures and pathological processes, differentiate artefacts from diagnostic findings, and provide technical impressions to the Radiologist.
The Ultrasound Technologist works collaboratively within the Diagnostic Imaging team to support efficient patient flow, maintain equipment and supplies, and uphold organizational values, professional standards, and patient confidentiality. Verify patient identification, preparation, and safety prior to all procedures. Ensure patient comfort, dignity, and confidentiality are maintained before, during, and after examinations. Diagnostic Imaging Responsibility: Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations in accordance with departmental protocols, professional standards, and physician requests.
Produce high-quality diagnostic images and recognize anatomical structures and pathological conditions during examinations. Perform examinations including abdominal, OB/GYN, small parts, and vascular ultrasound procedures as required. Adapt imaging techniques to routine and non-routine clinical situations while exercising sound judgment and decision-making skills. Communicate effectively and professionally with Radiologists, physicians, nursing staff, patients, and families.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support quality patient care and departmental operations. Operate ultrasound equipment safely and effectively to maintain optimal imaging quality. Maintain adequate supplies and report equipment malfunctions or concerns promptly. Maintain current professional registration and competencies in accordance with Sonography Canada and CMRITO requirements.
Practice in accordance with applicable legislation, professional standards, and organizational policies. Demonstrated ability to perform high-quality diagnostic imaging in both routine and non-routine circumstances. Proven ability to make frequent and independent decisions while performing technological procedures and assessing diagnostic results. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally and compassionately with patients, families, physicians, and colleagues.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive working relationships within a collaborative healthcare environment. Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment. Well-developed self-awareness, self-management, and social awareness skills.
