Ukraine also battled a fierce counterattack by Moscow in the Russian territory of Kursk, and showed journalists the remains of a new ballistic missile fired by Russia last week.

Russia n President Vladimir Putin has warned Ukraine to expect more ballistic missile strikes. Speaking at a defence conference on Friday, Putin vowed to keep testing the hypersonic Oreshnik missile it fired at Ukraine on Thursday and begin serial production of the new system.“An air alert has been sounded almost daily across Ukraine this week,” Zelenskyy said on Telegram messenger.

It was not immediately clear what missiles were destroyed and Kursk regional governor Alexei Smirnov did not provide further details in a post on his Telegram channel. Zelenskyy said he believed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s main objectives were to occupy the entire Donbas, which consists of Donetsk and Luhansk regions and oust Ukrainian troops from the Kursk region.

Reuters and the Associated Press were among a small group of reporters given access to the wreckage of the missile on Sunday.
