“You can go as a Canadian citizen who speaks French or English and you’re going to end up at the emergency system, and then you’re going to be prioritized and you’re still going to spend 10 hours in the system when you’ve got all the resources,” she said.“There seem to be some lack of awareness of the refugee issues beyond the Ukraine,” she said.The Canadian government tailors its immigration response when individuals are fleeing a country, according to the IRCC.

“When responding to international crises, there are often similarities in that people may be fleeing persecution of some sort, but the immigration response may differ,” the spokesperson said. “Although every situation is different, IRCC is always guided by the same values and principles. We evaluate how Canada can best help by looking at whether temporary or permanent solutions are required.”
