Over 50 regions across the UK are under yellow weather warnings for wind during the Easter weekend, with potential gusts of up to 90mph. The Met Office advises residents to secure property, prepare for potential travel disruptions and power cuts, and stay safe near coastal areas.
Over 50 regions throughout the UK are preparing for powerful winds during the busy Easter weekend travel period. The Met Office has put in place fresh yellow weather warning s for wind covering both Saturday and Sunday, with gusts potentially reaching up to 90mph in certain locations.
In Yorkshire, the warning covers the North Yorkshire region. The new yellow warnings for wind are in place for 18 hours from 6pm on Saturday until 12pm on Sunday. The Met Office said: "A spell of very strong winds later Saturday and overnight into Easter Sunday morning may cause some damage and travel disruption." Advising those in the 57 areas affected, forecasters said to "prepare to protect property and people from injury. Check for loose items outside your home and plan how you could secure them. Items include; bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, sheds, and fences." The windy warnings may also bring delays on roads and to buses and trains, with officials warning Brits to amend travel plans if necessary. They warned: "People cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance. It’s easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items. "If you are on the coast, stay safe during stormy weather by being aware of large waves. Even from the shore large breaking waves can sweep you off your feet and out to sea. Take care if walking near cliffs; know your route and keep dogs on a lead.
