Independence Bowl is one last show for UH's duo of Clayton Tune, Nathaniel Dell

A fifth-year quarterback who has overcome just about every type of adversity imaginable to become one of the school’s all-time passers.

Entering Friday, Tune and Dell have combined for 2,989 yards over the past three seasons, the fourth-highest total for a quarterback-receiver duo in school history. Kevin Kolb and Vincent Marshall from 2003-06 hold the top spot, followed by Case Keenum-Patrick Edwards and Keenum-Tyron Carrier from 2008-11, according to research compiled by the school’s sports information office.

“When he got here in 2020, I could tell how special of a player he was,” Tune said of Dell. “I sought him out and we would throw and put in as much work as possible because we knew we could make a lot of plays and help the team win games.” “Throwing to someone you trust is huge. That’s something I don’t think people understand,” Tune said. “Trust in a guy, being able to rely on him to be where he is supposed to be and run the right route, and obviously it’s both ways for him to trust me to put the ball where it’s supposed to be.”

At a time when players opt out of bowls to begin preparation for the NFL draft, Tune and Dell said the thought of not playing in the bowl never crossed their minds.
