Researchers at the University of Houston have developed a first of its kind technology that can repair and regenerate heart cells after a heart attack.

Robert Schwartz, a professor of biology and biochemistry at the University of Houston and others have developed a first of its kind technology to repair and regenerate heart cells after a heart attack.

“Patients with heart failure have their life supported on a left-ventricle assist device while waiting for a heart transplant,” said Robert Schwartz, a professor of biology and biochemistry at the University of Houston. “Our approach is to use the cells that are in the heart and tweak them to replicate.”

“No one has been able to do this to this extent,” said Schwartz, a co-author of the paper. “We think it could become a possible treatment for humans.”
