Vicente Luque and Mike Perry put on a 'Fight of the Night' performance in the co-main event of last night's UFC Fight Night 156 fight card from Uruguay.
MONTEVIDEO, URUGUAY - AUGUST 10: Vicente Luque and Mike Perry talk after their welterweight fight during the UFC Fight Night event at Antel Arena on August 10, 2019 in Montevideo, Uruguay. That was the main topic of conversation at the end of the co-main event of last night's UFC Fight Night 156 welterweight contest against between Vicente Luque and Perry. The reason for that was that one of Luque's knees had reshaped Perry's proboscis during the last round of the 15-minute battle.
Entering the contest, Luque was 9-2 in the UFC and not happy that he had yet to fight a ranked opponent. All nine of his wins had come via stoppage. Perry, an all-action fighter, with a substantial following due to his style was not ranked ahead of the contest. Perry had opened his MMA career with nine straight knockout wins. He had gone 4-4 after that and was coming off a"Fight of the Night" decision win over Alex Oliveira.
By the time the third round began, it was anyone's fight. A colossal knee from Luque quite literally crushed Perry's nose. After that, the match went to the ground where Luque attempted a guillotine choke. The pressure of the choke caused blood to pour from Perry's cuts and ruined nose and pool under Luque's back on the mat.
