Tritons shoot just 35 percent in 12-point loss to Rainbow Warriors
UC San Diego ended a disappointing week with its second cold shooting performance in three nights, making just 35 percent of its shots in a 65-53 loss Thursday to Hawaii at RIMAC Arena.
The Tritons scored 85 points Saturday against UC Riverside but were held to 50 in a six-point loss Tuesday to UC Irvine and barely exceeded that total against the Rainbow Warriors . UCSD wasn’t quite as bad from the floor as it was against Irvine — but it was close. Two nights after making just 30.5 percent of their shots against Irvine, including 6 of 25 from 3-point range, the Tritons shot 35.2 percent, including 6 of 24 from deep. Half of Thursday’s 3-pointers came in the final 68 seconds.
The Rainbow Warriors took control of the game with an 11-0 run that gave them a 28-15 lead late in the first half. UCSD trailed by 10 at halftime and never got closer than eight points after that.Bryce Pope led UCSD with 15 points, with Toni Rocak adding 11 points and seven rebounds. Hawaii shot just 40.4 percent but had four players score in double figures, led by Junior Madut with 16. Noel Coleman had 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while Kamaka Hepa and Bernardo da Silva each added 12 points and eight rebounds.
