Thousands of Uber, Lyft and Doordash drivers are striking Wednesday, in what organizers say is the largest nationwide work stoppages against gig economy giants.
Uber and Lyft drivers rally for batter pay and working conditions at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Austin on Wednesday February 14. Thousands of ride-hailing and delivery workers in the U.S. and the U.K. went on strike on Valentine's Day, calling for higher pay and other changes to their working conditions.
Platform workers will be rallying outside airports around the country and Uber’s offices on Wednesday. App-based food delivery couriers will also be striking over pay in the United Kingdom on Wednesday. Alix Anfang, a spokeswoman for Uber, said Wednesday afternoon that the company had not see an impact from the strike to its operations or reliability for drivers. “In fact, in most markets, there are more drivers on the road today than there were during the same period last week,” Anfang said.
DoorDash said in a statement that the company does not expect any significant impact on deliveries on Valentine’s Day.
