A rising tide floats all boats but the UAB football team has been plugging leaks this season while its current C-USA and future AAC opponents have sailed mostly smooth waters.
The Mean Green are the top-ranked offense in C-USA and rank sixth nationally in total offense. Not only has North Texas found usual success in the passing game, ranking 24th in the nation , but is tormenting opposing defenses with a rushing attack that has five players with at least 100 rushing yards and ranked 14th nationally .
North Texas is the sixth high-volume offense the Blazers will have faced the season, and only UTSA was able to produce on a routine level. Against the top passing offenses on its schedule, UAB held Georgia Southern to 204 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions, Western Kentucky to 128 yards, Charlotte to 214 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions, and MTSU to 196 yards, a touchdown and a pick.
“His progression, from coming in the first quarter of the Western Kentucky game, being thrown into that game, in that environment on the road, I thought he took huge steps,” Vincent said. “His composure, his leadership, his toughness, his decision-making; very impressed with his performance under some tough circumstances. He pulled the ball down and extended some drives with his legs.”
