U.S. Soccer argued in a court filing that the women's team is being paid according to the contract it agreed to, and blamed FIFA World Cup prize gaps for their smaller contract bonuses than the men's team

U.S. women’s soccer team players sought a collective-bargaining agreement that prioritized guaranteed salaries and benefits over potentially higher bonuses, and can’t now pursue “equal pay” claims based on a pay structure they rejected, the U.S. Soccer Federation argued in a court filing Wednesday.

The women’s claim that they were illegally paid less than the U.S. men’s national team was rightly dismissed, the federation argued in its 79-page filing to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in response to the women’s appeal.
