The coronavirus has claimed more than 1,000 U.S. lives per day since the start of the pandemic, but some states have borne especially large death tolls.

The United States is still logging more than 1,400 new deaths per day on average, according to Johns Hopkins. Texas has the nation’s highest rate of new deaths , followed by Mississippi and Arkansas , per the CDC. Meanwhile, 11 states reported less than one death per 100,000 in the last week: California , Rhode Island , North Dakota , Michigan , South Dakota , Maine , Minnesota , New Hampshire , Indiana , Massachusetts and Missouri .from Washington state.
