MILLBROOK, N.S. — Mounties in Nova Scotia have charged a 51-year-old man and 15-year-old youth for allegedly buying a prohibited firearm online after a tip from a U.S. law enforcement office.

In January, police say the federal policing section received word from Homeland Security Investigation in the U.S. that someone in the Millbrook area was trying to purchase a Glock 19 — a semi-automatic pistol — from the U.S. on a social media platform."As a result of this information and our subsequent investigation, we executed a search warrant at a residence and made two arrests," said Supt. Jason Popik, federal policing criminal operations officer with the Nova Scotia RCMP.

Officers say the Feb. 16 home search in Millbrook First Nation uncovered 17 unsecured firearms and ammunition, two prohibited 9-mm over-capacity magazines, computers, a 3D printer, filament and tools for manufacturing firearms and more than 225,000 contraband cigarettes.

The 15-year-old will appear in Truro provincial youth court on May 6, and the 51-year-old is due in Truro provincial court on May 8.
