In his address, Biden focused on areas Canada and the United States work together, starting with their support for the Ukrainian people.
“We’ll keep our alliance strong and united; we’ll defend every inch of NATO territory. An attack against one is an attack against all,” he said, spurring a round of applause.Another example of both countries’ collaboration is Norad, which he said is the only binational military command in the world. “Yet another way in which our partnership is exceptional. It is an incredible symbol of the faith we have in one another, and the trust we place in each other’s capabilities,” he said.
Biden insisted that Canadians are “blessed with incredible natural resources” that can help the world with its “clean energy future”. “I believe we have an incredible opportunity to work together. So Canada and the United States can source and supply, here in North America, everything we need for reliable, resilient supply chains,” he said.Article content
Biden also had a little slip of the tongue when it came time to formally announce a new deal on the Safe Third Country Agreement — saying he was applauding “China” instead of “Canada” for stepping up on the migration issue. He quickly corrected his mistake, and joked China was constantly on his mind.Article content
He concluded his speech by highlighting that three Americans and one Canadian will be part of an international team of astronauts as part of the Artemis crew which will fly to the moon, the first human voyage since the Apollo mission more than 50 years ago.
