Sunak's arrival in Israel came one day after Biden flew to Israel for a one-day trip aimed at aimed at preventing a wider conflict in the region. Sunak was due to visit other regional capitals after Israel.
"Every civilian death is a tragedy. And too many lives have been lost following Hamas' horrific act of terror," Sunak said. More than one million Palestinians have fled their homes — roughly half of Gaza's population, the UN has said — and many had taken refuge in Gaza City hospitals. Israel's military on Friday urged hundreds of thousands of Gazans to move to the southern part of the territory, though Hamas told Palestinians to reject that order.
