More than a dozen children are said to have fallen ill with stomach and heart problems, which left them requiring intensive care treatment in recent weeks.
The government says it is increasingly concerned about reports over a rise in the number of children needing treatment for an inflammatory syndrome which has been linked to COVID-19.
"[There is a] growing concern that a Sars-CoV-2-related inflammatory syndrome is emerging in children in the U.K., or that there may be another, as yet unidentified, infectious pathogen associated with these cases", the Health Services Journal reported. "There are some children who have died who didn't have underlying health conditions," Health Secretary Matt Hancock told LBC radio.

It is rare, although it is very significant for those children who do get it, the number of cases is small."
