Langham Creek sophomore guard Tyrus Rathan-Mayes scored 11 points to help lead the Lobos past Cypress Ranch 58-55 on Saturday afternoon. Langham Creek went on a 14-0 run down the stretch, with five different players contributing offensively, including Tyrus, to defeat visiting Cypress Ranch 58-55 on Saturday afternoon.For head coach Matt Symmank, the victory highlighted the team’s competitive spirit. The Lobos have won their past two games by a combined five points, after previously dropping two straight, improving to 20-10 overall and 8-3 in District 16-6A.
Tyrus has been a starter all his life, but at Langham Creek he had to get used to the pace first. He said his teammates kept telling him to shoot the ball. Tyrus was born in Toronto and moved to the Cypress area with his stepfather to play basketball. He was on varsity last year and came off the bench. The Rathan-Mayes brothers learned the game from their dad, Tharon, who played at Florida State and the LA Clippers and Philadelphia 76ers in brief stints, as youngsters and have kept up since.
