French\u002Dlanguage college La Cité closed its campuses in Ottawa and Orleans on Friday after evacuating them under police guard.

The Ottawa Police Service was continuing to investigate what it characterized as “threats” to the institution, but by 4 p.m. police had determined “there is no threat to students or the public” and cleared the scene.Sign up to receive daily headline news from Ottawa Citizen, a division of Postmedia Network Inc.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.

Police were called to the college’s campus on Aviation Parkway at 10:26 a.m. and the college subsequently decided to close its campuses after consultation with police officials. Meanwhile, due to the same threat and acting on police advice, Ottawa’s French Catholic school board announced l’École secondaire catholique de l’Innovation would be evacuated, while l’École élémentaire Catholique Montfort and Collège Catholique Samuel-Genest would be in a lockdown until the end of the school day.

“This action was taken as a preventative measure only as the Ottawa Police Service confirms there is no imminent danger,” the board said in a note to parents at l’École secondaire catholique de l’Innovation. “The police will remain at the school until the end of the school day to ensure everyone’s safety.”
