The grand-prize winner was Mary Sanipass of Eskasoni, who gets $95,518.
“We had more than 600,000 tickets in circulation,” said Edwards, who also serves as deputy mayor with the Cape Breton Regional Municipality, just before he and several police officers rolled around the drum before selecting the winning tickets. “I feel incredible. This was a complete and total shock. Oh my gosh … it definitely hasn’t quite sunk in yet.”
Last year’s grand prize winner, Louise Carter of Louisbourg, took home $103,346.50 in winnings — a record windfall, topping the $102,980 that the fundraiser produced for the 2020 draw. Glace Bay Minor Hockey Association volunteers go through the last batch of ticket collecting before Sunday's 50-50 Christmas draw at the Glace Bay Miners Forum. - IAN NATHANSON/CAPE BRETON POSTEdwards said ticket sales from draws such as these certainly help offset some financial burdens for kids playing minor hockey in Glace Bay.
