Two bikers dead after crash despite one being rushed to QMC following collision
Two bikers have died following a collision. The two men were believed to have been taking part in a track day at the Donington Park circuit close to East Midlands Airport.
It was just before 1pm on Tuesday, June 28, when police were called to the track following reports of a collision between two motorcycles. When officers arrived they found a man in his 50s had died at the scene. A second man, aged in his 30s, was rushed to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham for treatment but sadly he died a short time later as a result of his injuries. Both men are understood to have been taking part in a fully-licensed track day at the racetrack.Track days allow normal members of the public, in either their cars or motorbikes, to ride them around a circuit after paying a fee. The experiences have become increasingly popular in recent years and happen across the country.
In a statement to Derbyshire Live, a spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: "Shortly before 1pm on Tuesday 28 June, police were called to Donington Park Circuit following a report of a collision involving two motorcycles during a licensed track day. "Officers attended and one of the riders – a man in his 50s – was pronounced dead at the scene. The second rider – a man in his 30s – was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, where he later died as a result of his injuries.
