Gaming Twitter can be an emotional rollercoaster, serving as another battleground for users to accuse one another of being Ponies, Xbots, and whatever Switch die-hards are labeled–“rich,” I presume, given how well Nintendo software holds its value.
However, it’s so much more than base-level fanboying–and according to Twitter’s latest statistics, the topic of gaming is more popular than ever on its service. This week, the social media giant revealed that its gaming sphere had another record-breaking year, further establishing it as the go-to place for millions of players to discuss, recommend, reminisce, and argue about the games they love.
In the latest statistics compiled by Rishi Chadha–Twitter’s head of global gaming content partnerships–gaming tweets in 2021 are 14% up on the previous year, which is all the more impressive given how the early stages of the pandemic shuttered people indoors and led to a marked rise in new gamers entering the fold, as well asAccording to Chadha’s findings for 2021, there were over 2.4 billion gaming tweets, representing a whopping tenfold increase on 2017 figures.
