McGregor said the idea for @WeAreTheDead emerged during a meeting with then Citizen Editor-in-Chief Andrew Potter in October 2011. “With this system, you’re not cherry-picking stories of war heroes,” he said. “These are average people caught up in the experience of war; they agreed to enlist and lost their lives for whatever reason.
