ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Alicia Baker, 25, franchisee of DermaEnvy Skincare in St. John's, said she isn't the kind of person that wins things. So it came as a surprise when the Canadian Franchise Association awarded her the 2024 Franchisee of the Year.“Winning this award, I was shocked, I couldn't believe it. When they called my name, I said, ‘Are you sure?’”Baker was recognized on a national level among large franchises, such as Hallmark, Kumon and ServiceMaster Canada.
“Having DermaEnvy’s name up there was incredible, and the fact that we won just spreads the word about our business further. Now more people know who we are; which will make it easier for growth.”DermaEnvy Skincare is a medical spa that offers a variety of services, including laser treatments, body contouring, micro-needling, and general skincare. Baker has been operating the franchise since she was 21.

In the franchising world, companies either start west or in the centre of the country, whereas we started on the east coast. Because we've continued to expand, that intrigued them,” said Baker.
“I'm very hands-on. If a client comes in, they are seeing me, they are chatting with me, meaning I am their service provider. People don’t like to have to continue to get used to someone, they can get comfortable with me, or my staff.”She sees holding this title as a way to increase her client base and create better brand visibility.
