Speedy U of S Huskies receiver Rhett Vavra has a knack for the big catch — three of which ended up in the end zone this past weekend.
“To me,” Flory adds, “ just means you can run fast in a straight line. Football is a lot more than running fast in a straight line. That’s some of the movement stuff Joel Lipinski does with guys — we’ve got to make sure we can change direction, we can get in and out of cuts and breaks. And what Duane Dmytryshyn has done with him and the whole receiving corps is pretty remarkable, actually.
“It’s primarily because I wanted to get in lifts and throws with him, get close so we have that connection during the game,” Vavra says. “And it’s worked out so far. I’m glad I did it.”Article contentThe Huskies return to action Friday, when they host the Alberta Golden Bears at 7 p.m. Both teams are 2-0. Saskatchewan beat Manitoba 30-27 and Regina 40-6, while Alberta beat Calgary 33-9 and Manitoba 37-16.
Saskatchewan, which retains its No. 3 national ranking this week, is coming off back-to-back Vanier Cup losses — 27-21 to Western, and 30-24 to Laval.“Losing by six points in back-to-back years is a motivator not just for me, but for the team,” Vavra says. “One of these years, we’re going to get it done, and each season, we’re going to try and make it be that season.”
