A volunteer with the Gulf Center for Sea Turtle Research spotted the mother and retrieved the eggs for the center to incubate before releasing the hatchlings.

An endangered Kemp's ridley sea turtle laid 84 eggs after digging her nest along the beach. According to Galveston Island officials, this is the second consecutive year a turtle laid her nest inside park boundaries.species in the world, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

"Fortunately, the first person to spot her was a volunteer with Gulf Center for Sea Turtle Research," park officials wrote in a social media post."She happened to be walking the beach when she saw the turtle in the surf and headed for the beach." Park rangers were contacted and dispatched to assist in any way possible. The volunteer called"turtle patrol" and received instructions on how to handle the situation.

The eggs were collected and transported to the Padre Island National Seashore Division of Sea Turtle Science and Recovery. The eggs will be incubated, hatched and ultimately released from the facility., Kemp's ridley sea turtles were first listed as endangered in 1970. Females only come ashore to lay eggs in beach sand. Young Kemp's ridley float on large mats of sargassum in the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean, the habitat of the ridley sea turtle.
