The Bosphorus Bridge was renamed as the July 15 Martyrs' Bridge following the failed coup in July 2016.
Turkey has consistently pointed to FETO for being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary. The trial of 224 suspects, including more than two dozen former generals, began in May 2017 in the country's largest courtroom inside a prison complex in Sincan, Ankara.
Since July 2016, tens of thousands of people have been arrested over suspected links to the coup under a two-year state of emergency which ended in 2018. At least 26 generals were among those on trial, including Ozturk and Mehmet Disli, the brother of Saban Disli, who since September has served as Turkey's ambassador to the Netherlands.
