Alex Turcotte scored twice and added an assist as the Los Angeles Kings defeated the struggling Vancouver Canucks 5-1. The Kings' strong performance, including a potent power play, proved too much for the Canucks to overcome.

Alex Turcotte scored twice and added an assist as the Los Angeles Kings routed the struggling Vancouver Canucks 5-1 on Thursday. Turcotte's first goal of the night came just 51 seconds into the game, and before the end of the first period, the 23-year-old winger helped the Kings build a commanding 3-0 lead. Adrian Kempe and Kevin Fiala each chipped in with a goal and an assist, while Warren Foegele added another goal for the Kings (25-12-5).

Quinn Hughes spoiled the shutout bid with a long-range shot during a stretch of 4-on-4 hockey 14:52 into the second period, marking the lone goal for Vancouver (19-15-10). Kings goalie Darcy Kuemper turned aside 20 of the 21 shots he faced, while Thatcher Demko made 16 saves for the Canucks. Vancouver has now lost six of its last seven games and has fallen out of the Western Conference's second wild card spot. The Canucks' once-lethal power play has sputtered, failing to convert on any of their five opportunities with the man advantage on Thursday. Overall, Vancouver has been struggling to find the back of the net on the power play, going 0-for-10 in their last four games. On the other hand, the Kings have been consistently potent offensively. Thursday's win marked the eighth time in 43 games that Los Angeles has scored five or more goals. The performance was also a milestone for Turcotte, who earned the first multi-goal game of his NHL career.A highlight of the game came late in the first period when Turcotte set up L.A.'s second goal in a 24-second span. Positioned below the goal line, Turcotte executed a behind-the-back pass to Kempe, who skillfully maneuvered the puck across the crease and tucked it past Demko's outstretched skate, extending the Kings' lead to 3-0 at 9:42 of the first period
