Tucker Carlson, a pro-Trump MAGA influencer, insults Canadians in Alberta, reminiscent of Charles de Gaulle's 'Vive le Quebec libre' incident in 1967. Despite lacking political significance, it is disturbing to witness such behavior on Canadian soil.
I think you have to go back to then-French president Charles de Gaulle’s “Vive le Quebec libre” exhortation in 1967 to find an example of a foreigner taking advantage of their welcome to Canada to insult Canadians the way Tucker Carlson did in Alberta recently. Of course, at the time, de Gaulle was widely criticized both at home and in Canada for this grievous breach of protocol.
Then-prime minister Lester Pearson publicly rebuked the French leader, stating that Canadians were a free people and reminding him that thousands of Canadians had died liberating France in two world wars. Among those who criticized de Gaulle was then-justice minister Pierre Trudeau. A lot has obviously changed. While the Carlson incident in Alberta has little real political or historical weight, it’s still disgusting that we now have a pro-Trump MAGA influencer who was too toxic even for Fox News being wildly applauded on Canadian soil as he tells Canadians how to run their countr
