Long-time rivals face-off in Yarmouth tomorrow evening
Truro Bearcats goaltender Jack Milner and defenceman Brendan Bays in a drill during their Friday afternoon practice.TRURO, N.S. — Friday afternoon, the Truro Jr. A Bearcats skated through a brisk final practice in preparation for their game one match-up versus the Yarmouth Mariners.
Furthermore, Yarmouth beat out the Pictou County Week Crushers in round one, in a 4-0 series sweep, while the Bearcats needed six to subdue the stubborn Valley Wildcats."We need to come into this series and play our game," said the veteran forward from Dartmouth. The Bearcats series versus Valley was a back-and-forth affair that had many fans on the edge of their seats. The fierce rivalry between the two led to close overtime games, coupled with some hard-hitting action.
The fifth game pushed both teams to their limits, as both were left in the third period with three goals each. The ensuing overtime saw Bearcats' forward Carter McCluskey score the final goal of the game, putting Truro above the Wildcats in the series, once again. Bays, an Ottawa, ON native, said the team will need to continue to do the things that worked for them in the series and be even better against a deep and talented Mariners team.
"They're a really good team. They've been good from start to finish all year," said Bays, noting they have only suffered nine regulation-time losses all season."They won in four against Pictou. They'll be a tough team to beat, but we're going to try our best to come out on top."
