Trump's vaunted task force to reopen the US economy became a marathon series of phone calls with 200 corporate leaders instead

President Donald Trump on Tuesday said the coronavirus outbreak would "go away" and urged Americans to remain calm as cases jumped and the White House came under mounting pressure to boost its response to the ongoing crisis.Trump's economic task force became a series of four phone calls with 200 corporate leaders on Wednesday, Bloomberg reported.

"These bipartisan groups of American leaders will work together with the White House to chart the path forward toward a future of unparalleled American prosperity," the statement read. Bloomberg reported that some of the executives were invited to participate at the last minute, triggering some confusion among them. The sheer size of the group could also make it difficult for a deep discussion of the trade-offs involved with reopening the economy before mass virus testing is widely available. It was not immediately clear what advisory role, if any, those business leaders would serve in the White House.
