Senior FBI officials held a call with reporters to give the latest information they have on the man who carried out the shooting at Trump’s rally, noting that the agency is treating the case as both an attempted assassination and as “possible domestic terrorism.”Earlier on Sunday, authorities said they discovered an AR-style rifle they believe was used by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, the gunman who was killed after firing at the former president.
Crooks’ family is cooperating with the FBI, according to lead investigator Kevin Rojek. The agency said the gunman’s father purchased the weapon, though it’s currently unclear if his son was given the weapon or if he had taken it without permission.The agency also said that officials believe Crooks worked alone, and that there is no evidence so far that he was struggling with his mental health.
