Trump and his advisers are scrambling to come up with MAGA 2.0
considering a potential address from Trump on race—but the notion of Donald Trump having any credibility whatsoever on the subject is laughable. Some in the president’s camp have set their sights a little lower, merely hoping that they can get him to tone down the rhetoric a few notches. “We’ve gotta dial it down a bit,” an adviser told Axios. But even that prospect seems like little more than a pipe dream on the part of his political advisers.
The trouble with these supposed tone shifts is that Trump cannot substantially change or sustain any modifications to his message, because it is simply not in his nature to do so. We all already know who he is—and, if there were any chance of us forgetting, Trump himself is quick to remind us.
