Today's episode of Asking for a Trend hosted by Josh Lipton delves into two major stories: Trump's conviction and the surge in private credit. Following...

Hello and welcome to asking for a trend. We're going to break down the trends today that will move stocks tomorrow. We're going to be diving into a guilty verdict for Trump but the fight is far from over there.

I was surprised by how fast it came and the fact that 12 jurors and I just want to pause for a moment because those jurors had an impossibly difficult situation, right? They were under an extraordinary amount of pressure and they were still able to do their job in the space of just a few days and come out with a unanimous verdict that uh you know, you know, all the sort of chaos, confusion of the American political system that we have right now.

But remember the founding fathers mandated a jury trial in the United States because they said right, that that is the surest protection against tyranny by the government. If you just do the math on that, 80% you should expect 1.5 to 2 Trump voters in the jury pool, right? Uh You know, we can talk about whether that's a plausible, that's still likely to be by election day or not.It wouldn't be totally shocking for them to be thinking, well, this guy is gonna win and I should back and, you know, there are other sort of issues and concerns as well, but we should think through Mosk is under a variety of different pressures and sort of uh uh different issues.

Private credit is them raising money for funds to invest in either things like direct lending to companies or other types of financing vehicles, real estate or other types of lending vehicles. He al also talked about bad actors in this industry, but he said that seems like the minority for now, JP Morgan by the way, is also getting into this business.

But helping develop an H A vision for a company that would go on to revolutionize computing in the world had its challenges.By 2000, she co founded the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which aims to reduce health inequities in low income countries. And in fact, I think there's been a rollback as we see with the Dobbs decision and other of many things you've been really out in front of this and doing this work, this impactful work for many years.Particularly as I was traveling to low income countries, the barriers are just right there in front of you.

And so I'm trying to prove out that there are gigantic markets that are being left behind and guess what?I think there are places we can invest and I can make money within the VC space. Sometimes they actually get out in front of the federal government actually often currently women make up more than 50% of the United States but hold only 28% of the seats in Congress.Having those seats represent all of society.

I was like, I wanna be like her after graduating from Duke University, French Gates joined Microsoft in its infancy as one of only a few female managers. How have you been shaped by Warren Buffett and his views on leadership and even life when both Bill and I were struggling with my gosh, we're getting all these letters. He would say, pick your bull's eye, pick your target and your bull's eye and work in that in your circle of competence and get good at it.Since 2006, Buffett has donated more than $36 billion to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation helping the institution give away $77.6 billion dollars and grants since its inception.

And so people didn't realize that we were even running the foundation when we were having difficult times in the marriage. So that it reflects all of who we are, will help all of us get to be and work in society the way we want to and to ultimately thrive. If women or people of color come up, it's actually not true, but they will push back on those ideas.
