Republican presidential candidate former President Donald Trump is surround by U.S. Secret Service agents at a campaign rally, Saturday, July 13, 2024, in Butler, Pa. Donald Trump was rushed off stage at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, after several loud pops that appeared to have been gun shots rang out roughly 10 minutes into his speech.
The Republican presidential hopeful was shown on camera with blood on his right ear as he was escorted off the stage by security agents, pumping his fist at the crowd. Mr. Trump had been discussing immigration when he reached up to touch his ear. Video footage of the event showed security agents racing to the stage, some with assault rifles, as people in the crowd screamed, “oh my God.”
Mr. Trump appeared able to walk as he left the stage, surrounded by a cluster of security agents, the crowd chanting, “USA! USA!”Mr. Trump ducked behind the lectern after initial sounds of shots as security covered him on the stage. “Shooter’s down,” one said, before Mr. Trump was raised from the ground.Blood streaked from his ear across his lip.
Mr. Trump was speaking two days before the opening of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he is expected to be confirmed as the party’s nominee for president. He has yet to name a vice-president, and the Pennsylvania rally had been closely watched to see if he might make such an announcement.
