President-elect Donald Trump is considering granting a 90-day extension to TikTok to avoid a U.S. ban, as a law prohibiting the platform's distribution within the country comes into effect.

U.S. president-elect Donald Trump indicated on Saturday that he would likely grant TikTok a 90-day extension to finalize a deal that would prevent a U.S. ban on the popular video-sharing platform . Trump stated in an interview with NBC News that while he hadn't reached a definitive decision, he was inclined to provide TikTok with additional time after his inauguration on Monday.

A law prohibiting mobile app stores and internet hosting services from distributing TikTok within the United States comes into effect on Sunday. This law, passed by Congress and signed by President Joe Biden last year, stipulated that TikTok's China-based parent company had nine months to sell the platform's U.S. operations to an approved buyer. The law, however, allows the incumbent president to grant an extension if a sale is actively underway. \'I think that would be, certainly, an option that we look at,' Trump told 'Meet the Press' moderator Kristen Welker during a phone interview. 'The 90-day extension is something that will be most likely done, because it’s appropriate. You know, it’s appropriate,' he added. 'We have to look at it carefully. It’s a very big situation.
