Trump has repeatedly accused Democrats of “rigging” the primary against “Crazy Bernie”

on the eve of Super Tuesday. The accusations don’t make a whole lot of sense. Getting “two other losers to support Sleepy Joe,” as Trump accused Democrats of doing Tuesday after Biden secured the endorsements of, is the routine politics of coalition-building, not election-fixing. But the point of Trump’s primary analysis isn’t logic; it’s to play up divisions between progressives and moderates.

Of course, there’s the possibility that helping spread a narrative that the Democratic party engaged in some kind of corruption to help Biden and hurt Sanders could depress progressive turnout; Democrats inhad issues with voter turnout, particularly among young voters. A lack of enthusiasm for the nominee could jeopardize their chances again this November. But Democrats may be willing to put aside whatever bitter feelings exist toward one another in support of a common goal.
