“What a mess she and her representatives have created,' Trump tweeted, about May. 'I told her how it should be done, but she decided to go another way.”
President Donald Trump on Monday took a jab at outgoing U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May over her handling of Brexit, as he vowed not to work with the British ambassador to the U.S. and defended his environmental policies.Trump in a tweet hit out at May in the wake of leaked U.K. diplomatic cables, in which Ambassador Kim Darroch described the Trump administration as “diplomatically clumsy and inept” and said he doubted it would become “substantially more normal.
“The good news for the wonderful United Kingdom is that they will soon have a new Prime Minister,” he added. Boris Johnson, the front-runner for the prime minister’s job, has pledged that the U.K. will be fully prepared to leave on Oct. 31.Speaking at the White House, Trump promoted what he said were his administration’s environmental achievements — with the country leading in areas including clean drinking water, slashing air pollution and cutting carbon emissions.
Jill Tauber of the group Earthjustice told Reuters it’s “absurd” for Trump to claim environmental credentials “when his administration continues to drive a destructive pro-polluter agenda at the expense of the American people.” At the beginning of the event, Trump said he plans to hold a “Salute to America” July 4 celebration again next year, “and maybe, we can say, for the foreseeable future.”Robert Schroeder Robert Schroeder is the White House reporter for MarketWatch.
