Facing a coronavirus emergency that crippled a vibrant economy and robbed Mr. Trump’s most potent selling point for a second term, he and his advisers see an opening for a different kind of argument. “We built the greatest economy in the world. I’ll do it a second time,” Mr. Trump said during a recent press briefing.
